Back to the last edition

ACA Insurance Days 2021 concluded on Thursday, November 25 with an academic session marked by a return to physics.

In front of 300 people, Marc Lauer, President of the Association des Compagnies d’Assurances et de Réassurances du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (ACA), addressed the audience and the Minister of Finance with his wishes for the industry: to preserve the single market, to adapt the professional secrecy of insurance in order to remove certain operational barriers to Luxembourg companies, to stick to the strict application of the directives – without adding obligations on Luxembourg insurers that would penalize them on the European market/ to avoid goldplating in the transposition of European directives and finally, to be attentive to the fact that, on the Luxembourg market, all companies that market insurance are subject to the same obligations.

Marc Lauer then met with Thierry Flamand, the director of the Insurance Commission. A cordial and open exchange, in which the director of the CAA went back over the functioning of the CAA, the evolutions and the increase of the regulator’s workload and missions following the regulatory waves and the redefinition of the control methods. He also stressed that Luxembourg has a very balanced industry in terms of the importance of life and non-life insurance and reinsurance, which makes it an attractive ecosystem for new entrants. This academic session was also the occasion of two announcements: the creation of the LuxFLAG Sustainable Insurance Product Label and the winner of ACA Insurance Innovation Awards 2021.

Creation of the LuxFLAG Sustainable Insurance Product Label

LuxFLAG is an independent labeling agency founded in 2006 by public and private partners with the aim of contributing to sustainable development and promoting transparency. The LuxFLAG label means that a financial product meets the LuxFLAG criteria and that the company makes commitments on its product that are subject to controls. This new label is intended for life insurance products that contribute to the climate transition, as well as to several United Nations sustainable development goals. This achievement is the result of consultations held over the past year with numerous players in the insurance and financial ecosystem.

ACA Insurance Innovation Awards

For the 2nd year, the ACA organized the ACA Insurance Innovation Awards to reward the startup that offers the most innovative contribution to the insurance industry. 9 startups were selected in partnership with LHoFT, Luxembourg for Finance and the Ministry of Finance, and pitched in front of a jury of insurance professionals.

The ACA Insurance Days 2021 audience was able to discover these startups throughout the month of November and rate them. Fabrice Sauvignon, CEO of The Hokus Platform, received the 2021 Award from H.E. Pierre Gramegna, Minister of Finance, and congratulations from Marc Lauer, ACA President and Nasir Zubairi, CEO of LHoFT.

As is customary at the academic session, H.E. Pierre Gramegna addressed the audience. He spoke about the situation in Europe and Luxembourg after the pandemic, about the interpretation to be given to the latest developments in the field of climate following the COP26 and about the role of insurers and sustainable finance in preparing us for the future.

For this edition, the Guest speaker of the academic session, Dame Inga Beale, is an insurance personality, the first female president of Lloyd’s of London. Her speech “Risky business: how to navigate a changing world” highlighted the three “D’s” that will allow, in a world characterized by uncertainty, to act on the insurance industry: portfolio decarbonization, digitalization and diversity.
